Health chief calls for local people to get involved in plans for future health and social care services

Helping to achieve the best in health and wellbeing for everyone, NHS Vale of York Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is now working on what are expected to be solid, practical plans for the next five years.

Using local evidence and feedback from discussions with patients, the public, partners and healthcare providers, the CCG will develop its priorities around how it will continue to transform and continuously improve healthcare services.

Rachel Potts, Chief Operating Officer for the CCG said: “Involving the public and patients in the decision making process features strongly in our planning and commissioning local healthcare services.

“It is important for the CCG to understand community need and identify this; which is why we are taking the lead to develop conversations that are owned locally.

“The CCG has arranged significant and meaningful public involvement events which will pave the way for open and honest discussions, helping to plan for the future.

“The CCG understands that not everyone can attend its events; that is why we will be making a draft version of the strategic plan available on the website along with the opportunity to feedback. This means that members of the public and patients have as many opportunities as possible to give their views.”

The events take place in the first week of March.

‘Urgent care’ is for a sudden illness or injury that needs treating fast, but is not considered to be a 999 emergency. You do not need an appointment to access an urgent care service. Urgent care services should not be used to treat minor symptoms that could wait to be treated by your own GP, pharmacist or even yourself using over the counter medicines.

The current urgent care services in Scarborough and Ryedale that are included in this review include:

  • GP out-of-hours service
  • Walk-in service at Castle Health Centre
  • Malton Minor Injuries Unit (MIU)

We want to improve the way that urgent care services are provided in the Scarborough and Ryedale area by creating a new, integrated urgent care service. To help us develop our plans, we want you to read our ‘Right care, first time’ document and then complete our online survey.

We are also holding a series of public events for you to come and find out more and have your say – details of which are in the table below:
